A versatile and nutritious dog treat recipe letting you choose between meat, fish, fruit, or vegetables as the main ingredient. It's rich in protein and fiber, perfect for keeping your furry friend healthy and happy.
Equipment
- Baking mat
- Mixer or Food Processor
- pot
- Mixing Bowl
- Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer
Ingredients
- 300 g Meat/Fish/Fruit/Vegetable
- 1.2 cups Potato Flour
- 1.2 cups Buckwheat Flour
- 3 Whole Eggs
- 1 tbsp Oil (e.g. Coconut Oil)
- 0.21 cups Water
Instructions
- Choose the main ingredient that will determine the flavor of the dog biscuits. You can choose between meat, fish, fruit, or vegetables. For example: Meat: chicken breast, ground beef, turkey meat. Fish: salmon fillet, tuna (fresh or canned, in its own juice). Fruit: apple, banana, pear. Vegetables: carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin.
- Wash the ingredient thoroughly under running water to remove dirt and residues. Peel the ingredient, if necessary. This applies especially to fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, and sweet potatoes. You can usually skip this for meat and fish. Cut the ingredient into small pieces so that it cooks evenly and faster.
- Put the cut pieces into a pot with water and bring the water to a boil. Let the ingredient simmer until it is soft and well-cooked. The cooking time varies depending on the ingredient: Meat: approx. 15-20 minutes. Fish: approx. 10-15 minutes. Fruits and vegetables: approx. 10-15 minutes or until they are soft.
- Drain the cooked ingredient and let it cool down. Put the cooled pieces into a blender or food processor and puree them until a uniform, fine mass is obtained. If the mass is too thick, you can add some cooking water to achieve the right consistency.
- The pureed main ingredient is now ready for the dough. Put it into the mixing bowl and continue with the further steps of the recipe to obtain a uniform dough.
- Weigh all ingredients and put them into the mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer or a kitchen machine to mix the ingredients to a smooth dough. The dough should have the consistency of pancake batter. Let the dough rest for about 20-30 minutes so that the ingredients can combine well.
- Place the baking mat on a baking tray. After the resting time, carefully fill the dough into the depressions of the baking mat. Make sure that no air bubbles form. Use a dough scraper to return excess dough to the bowl.
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C (356 °F). Put the baking tray with the filled baking mat into the oven. The baking time is approx. 20-45 minutes, depending on your oven, the size of the baking mat and the ingredients used. The biscuits should be able to be easily removed from the baking mat when they are done. If they still stick, extend the baking time a little and adjust the temperature accordingly.
- After baking, distribute the biscuits again on the baking tray. Dry the biscuits in the oven at approx. 80 °C (176 °F), until they are really hard. This can take about 5-6 hours, depending on the thickness of the biscuits. Leave the oven door ajar to let the moisture escape.
